Loni Bach: Lakeland Strings Conductor

Loni Bach is the conductor of the Lakeland Strings Orchestra. She is also the orchestra director at Sparta High School where she has been teaching for the past 31 years. She attended the University of Michigan where she received her Bachelors of Music in Cello performance and her Masters of Music in Strings Education. At Sparta High School her daily schedule includes: an honors Full Orchestra, a Symphony Orchestra, guitar and piano classes.  After school, Bach directs a very active chamber music club and a strings club performing rock and pop music which utilizes strings,  guitars, percussion, piano, and the occasional vocal soloist. In total, Bach instructs approximately 130 students daily. Loni is also an adjunct professor at Rutgers University where she teaches String Methods.

She has also been very involved with the New Jersey Region I orchestral division where she has served as orchestra chair, conductor of the junior region orchestra in 2008 and 2022 and hosted many rehearsals and concerts. She also was the NJ-ASTA Classroom teacher of the year. Ms. Bach has also been the president of New Jersey American String Teacher Association. She is an active freelance cellist and serves as the principal cellist of the New Sussex Symphony. Bach also has a private cello studio in Mendham. Outside of her musical life, Bach is a proud mother of her daughter Jessica (a talented violinist!) who graduated with a degree in nursing from the University of Michigan – go blue!
